The first session of Spartanburg County Circuit Court was held at the mill. James Anderson became owner of the mill in 1831. The gristmill is still standing in this photograph.

It was later sold and became known as the Andrews Building for new owner Isaac Andrews. First National Bank is located in the Andrews Building in this view. A Wells Fargo truck is parked in front. In 1977 the building was being prepared for demolition. It suddenly collapsed, killing 5 men.

20. Arkwright Mills Arkwright MillsTextilesThis textile plant was named for British inventor Richard Arkwright. Arkwright Mills, organized in 1896, was located on Fairforest Creek in southern Spartanburg. The original mill closed in 1979 and was later demolished.
