He built one of the earliest textile plants at the North Pacolet River, near the present site of Fingerville. The settlement is named for Joseph Finger. His textile operation burned in 1885. This mill was opened a few years later. Sign on building: Fingerville Mfg. Co. July 1888. Employees and mule-drawn wagons are pictured near the textile mill building.
