Ernest Burwell building, West Main Street. In this photo, Burwell is selling Chevrolets. From signs in window, business is soon moving to new location. The Chevrolet dealership would be located on North Church Street. This building was destroyed by fire in the 1980s.

This building was on the corner of West Main Street and Morgan Street (now Daniel Morgan Avenue). Burkett Motor Company was on the right. In this photo Ernest Burwell is now selling Chevrolet vehicles. The dealership is in the process of moving to North Church Street. This building was destroyed by fire in the 1980s.

This historic house on North Church Street was built in 1854 by James Bivings. Bivings sold the home to John H. Evins. The house, placed on the National Historic Register in 1970, is an example of Greek Revival Architecture.

The market was located about one block east of Union Street on East Kennedy Street. Vegetables, fruits, and flowers were sold here in the 1960s and 1970s.

This building was constructed in 1930 on the corner of Magnolia and Walnut streets. It opened as the United States Post Office for Spartanburg.

Fingerville Manufacturing Company

Joseph Finger incorporated the Pacolet Manufacturing Company in 1840. He built one of the earliest textile plants at the North Pacolet River, near the present site of Fingerville. The settlement is named for Joseph Finger. His textile operation burned in 1885. This mill was opened a few years later. Sign on building: Fingerville Mfg. Co. July 1888. Employees and mule-drawn wagons are pictured near the textile mill building.
