121. Dupre House Dupre HouseHomesThe Dupre House on North Church Street was built in 1885 by Bishop William Wallace Duncan. This photograph was taken in 1991. The house became known as the DuPre House when the bishop's daughter, Carrie Duncan, married Warren Dupre. The house was moved to Howard Street in 1997 to make room for a new hotel. The Spartanburg Marriott is now on the site on North Church Street. The house is being restored by the Preservation Trust.

Gash controlled the movement of cars, trucks, trolley cars and pedestrians. Before the city had electric traffic signals, Gash was Spartanburg's only traffic officer. He also operated the one mechanical signal in downtown Spartanburg. Business pictured are Bijou, Bee Hive, Kress, Arnold's Piggly Wiggly, Strand, and Brill Electric. Trolley tracks are in the center of the street.
